HID is the future in vehicle lighting. HID stands for High Intensity Discharge. Basically it is exceptionally high voltage passing through a gas that emits the light. (Just like a fluoro tube). This means the following:
* There is no fragile element that can break. The only way to blow a HID globe is to break the glass. To do that requires an impact. This means no blown or fragile globes.
* The globe can be immersed in water and still work.
* HID globes run at low amps (amps are what flattens a battery). Low amps means longer battery life when the engine is not running.
* HID globes run at 55 Watts. A normal Spot Light globe runs at 100 Watts. This means less current (amps) for longer battery life as well as less heat output. Less heat means less problems when submerging under water with temperature changes, etc.

What's more the lenses are glass for the very best quality of light. Just like we don't drink beer out of plastic - we shouldn't pass light through plastic. We don't have plastic sunnies or reading glasses either. Granted plastic lenses are tough and can withstand stones and even hammers (I haven't hit a hammer yet) but that's why these come with protective covers anyway, just in case.
Fitting the HID unit doesn't compromise the factory dust sealing or water resistance of the light. It's time to get out of the 90s and upgrade to these beauties. You can do it!
