Redarc Dual Batery Solenoid
The NEW REDARC “Smart Start” Dual Battery Isolator (REDARC Part Number SBI 12) is receiving rave reviews from many quarters. Feedback from Auto Electricians, end users and reports posted to website chat rooms suggest it is one of the best performing, value for money Isolators on the market today.
Essentially, the task of the REDARC is to keep the main battery charged so that it will always start the engine. To this end, wire all accessories such as fridge, camp music, caravan, camper and camp lighting, etc to the second battery. It is OK if that battery goes flat and for this reason it is ideal if that second battery is a deep cycle battery. (Deep Cycles are OK going to dead flat and charge lasts longer in that regard). The main vehicle battery remains charged and will start the car as normal. When the engine is running the REDARC will make sure that the main battery is fully charged and then it will switch to charging the second battery.

What we like most about the REDARC is that it is rated at 100 Amps continuous and that means it can handle starter motors and winch motors. Most other dual battery systems merely keep a battery charged for a fridge and the starter and winching is still done through just the one main battery - but not with REDARC. The REDARC can join the two batteries together so that you can have two batteries cranking the starter motor or the winch. That's quite a BIG FEATURE.

Mount the unit in a safe tidy position in the engine bay.

Work out what length cables you need by running a length of rope where you are going to run the cables. Measure the rope and visit your local auto accessory shop. They will make up battery cables just the right length with lugs on each end.
